“It all began when I really dug into Allen Toussaint’s writing. The way he wrote with reckless abandon really inspired me”
After moving from New Jersey to New Orleans in the spring of 2023, I found myself captivated by the songs of Allen Toussaint, or A.T. as I affectionately like to abbreve. He influenced so many famous recordings, and wrote more than a thousand songs. That fact gave me the courage to get into the numbers game of songwriting, and I was suddenly brimming with ideas and new things to try to write about. These seven songs make up a cathartic collection of songs recorded in my French Quarter apartment one fall evening in 2024. It’s an attempt to blend folk storytelling with jazz harmonies and sensibilities. The deeper into it I dove, the closer I’ve come to getting a cohesive blend. Even since releasing this album and starting another, the jazz/ folk styling has become more solid. Enjoy!
Remember CDs?
You’re hip! You know what you like! You had a walkman with anti-skip, and you remember what your first CD was! Why keep the excitement of tangible media in the past? Get yourself something to hold onto while you stream the album at home once you realized you don’t have a CD player anymore, and your walkman with anti-skip skipped its way into the donate pile because its “vintage” now…
Anyway, would you like to buy a physical copy straight from the source?
